Delve into the intriguing investigation of the elusive neutrinos and their extraordinary properties!
Tailored for students aged 11-13, this interactive detective-themed resource pack invites learners to uncover
the secrets of these mysterious particles. The pack is designed to be delivered over the course of three sessions
lasting approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
For more information on the pack, contact: Dr Nicola
McConkey
The pack comprises:
- Animated PowerPoint Presentations: Meet a cast of quirky particle characters who will
guide students through the investigation and introduce key concepts.
- Lesson Plans and Notes: Accompanying the presentations, comprehensive lesson plans and
notes are
provided to
support educators in delivering engaging and informative sessions. These resources offer guidance on
facilitating discussions, conducting hands-on activities, and promoting critical thinking.
- Create-A-Neutrino Worksheet: Students will explore the fascinating concept of neutrino
'shape-shifting'
(flavour oscillations) while unleashing their creativity through building an interactive 3D model of a
neutrino.
- Interactive Energy Conservation Activity: TA hands-on activity that explores the
principle of energy
conservation and its relation to neutrino interactions, namely Beta-decay. Detailed instructions are
provided
to
guide students through the activity, encouraging active participation and scientific thinking.
- Zine-Making Activity including Printable Sticker/Cutout Sheets: Foster creativity with a
zine-making
activity and sticker/cutout
sheets featuring the cast of particle characters. Students can use these materials to create
their own zines, showcasing their knowledge of the world of neutrinos.
